10 Bloggers, 20 Sartorial Eyes: Top 10 Bloggers of the Moment and Why We Love Them

With the rise of blogging in the last several years, the fashion industry has been able to breathe new life into the way consumers interact with brands and their exposure to them. The voices behind these platforms serve as the flies on the industry wall, offering their limitless knowledge on the subject. Leandra Medine: Man Repeller

Quoted as saying “Man Repelling isn’t about getting dressed and saying ‘How am I going to repel a man today?’ It’s about dressing for yourself and liking what you’re wearing.” Medine’s love of overalls may have ignited the most man repelling of all trends, but this girl knows her stuff. Growing up on New York’s Upper East Side, her early exposure to haute couture and fearless ability to dress for herself has lead her to Fashion Week’s front rows, a successful blog, and a book deal to boot. What to Wear Thursday: Maxi Dresses

Who ever thought it would be this much fun to cover up in the summer? Maxi dresses are the one clothing item we don’t mind covering our legs in! Maxi Dresses are so much fun to wear because they virtually come in any color or pattern and can be wore day to night.
A bold color is a perfect option if you are trying this look for the first time. We love this Milly Lemon Stephanie yellow maxi because the color is perfect for the summer (and the ruffles are a bonus!) Bold colors allow you to layer on more jewelry and add other vibrant colors to color block.
Patterns or multiple colors are a great way to make an effortless statement for the summer. A small detail, such as the braid strings on this Skye Multi-Color maxi is perfect for creating shape. This dress is great for a beach day or vacation!
A one-shoulder maxi is perfect for the evening. We love this Von Vonni maxi because of the open back! Pair any of these dresses with wedges. We heart these Jimmy Choo nude wedges! A pair of earrings (Chanel gold earrings) and a ring (YSL oval stone ring) tie the look together.

Ask a Stylist: What to Pack for the Hamptons

We’ve teamed up with amazing tastemaker and fashion blogger, Elle from ellechoi.com, to answer your every day fashion questions! Got a question? send us an email at: snobswap@snobswap.com or post the question on our Facebook wall. This week’s edition is how to wear those slinky silk pants without looking like you are ready for nap time. Thanks for reading! xo

Ask a Sylis: Elle of ellechoi.com

Q: I’m heading to the Hamptons for July 4th weekend.  What should I pack?

Elle: I’m not gonna lie. I’ve never been to the Hamptons. But from what I’ve gathered through many nights of watching Sex and the City, knowing how hot it can be in July and assuming you’ll be attending many social soirees and/or relaxing, this is what I would pack if I were to getaway for the 4th of July weekend! And these items can work for any little getaway, not just the Hamptons.

What's in my weekend bag for the Hamptons

1. A summer dress that’ll turn heads — a maxi dress is a very versatile piece that can work for many different settings.
2. A hat — keep yourself cool and as far away from sun damage as possible.
3. Flats to wear with your maxi and/or on the beach!
4. SPF — again, let’s protect ourselves from sun damage, freckles and wrinkles!
5. Fabulous shades — no explanation needed.
6. Jewelry that can serve as an accessory and a conversation piece as well.
7. A bikini – duh.
These are 7 items I would not travel without if headed to the Hamptons or any other beachy getaway. xoxo!

Best Swap of My Life: How I Scored Isabel Marant Kicks on SNOBSWAP

This is a story of how I swapped on SNOBSWAP and scored a pair of sold-out-everywhere Isabel Marant kicks.

After stalking Isabel Marant sneakers for months, a seller named Hadley listed the perfect pair on SNOBSWAP.  ”I bought a pair of Isabel Marant wedge sneakers and was completely in love with them, but realized after two wears that they were actually too small on me. I had never sold any clothing online before, and a friend recommended I try SNOBSWAP! She told me how easy it was to post items to sell, and about the possibility of swapping items which I loved,” said Hadley.

I decided to make an offer these gorgeous kicks.  I sent Hadley a cash offer and within an hour, Hadley sent me a counter offer.  She counter-offered to swap her Isabel Marant sneakers for my Missoni scarf plus a little extra $ to even out the deal.  And voila! A successful swap was made.

“I love my Isabel Marant sneaker/ missoni scarf swap! The scarf has really come in handy in this cool spring weather and gives any outfit a colorful feel,” gushed Hadley.  My sentiments exactly, thanks for the awesome swap, Hadley! xoxo

How do you describe your style?
My style is feminine-chic with a twist of glamour and a bohemian flair. There’s nothing better than a diaphanous pair of palazzo pants, a structured top and some punchy platforms to create a polished, resort-wear look.  I embrace my girly, effeminate side,by adding edgy flourishes into the mix. I love pairing lace and sequins with quilted leather and studded embellishments. Style and fashion incorporate movement, architecture and art in a fusion of sartorial genius; it’s something you should have fun with!

What’s the secret to selling designer clothing online? Great photos!

For all the fashionistas out there who want to turn your closets into cash, we have a tip! A killer set of photos will help maximize the potential of your item selling and guarantee a happy buyer. Now that’s a win-win! Our staff came up with a quick how to guide to get you started. Happy snapping!

 Girls taking photos

Lighting

    • Always use natural light. Find a space near a big window or under a shade with no direct sunlight.
    • Avoid using flash as it overexposes the details on your item.

Background

    • Take photos of your item against a simple white background. A busy background is distracting and will detract from your item.

Perspectives and details

    • Shoot the item on a mannequin, dress to impress on your self, or hanging up.
    • Take multiple photos. We recommend at least 5 from different angles such as front, side, back and close ups.
    • Zoom is your friend! Show interesting details such as embellishments, hardware and fabric.
    • Take photos of labels, tags and original packaging such dust bags, cases and authenticity cards (especially if the item is new!).
    • Capture any defects. Being up front and honest about the quality of your item guarantees a happy buyer!

Have fun with it

    • Refer to your favorite catalogs and magazines for inspiration. Channel your inner Mario Testino!
    • Use photos you would post on Facebook or Instagram. Put up pictures you are proud to share!

SNOBSWAP Ask a Stylist segment featuring Elle from ellechoi.com

Q: I love the silk pants I’m seeing these days. How do I wear them without it looking like I’m wearing my PJs?

Elle: I’m personally obsessed with silk pants and silk shorts. They’re so comfortable that yes, you really do feel like you’re walking around in PJ’s. But if worn correctly, you’ll feel super chic and effortlessly fashionable in this trend. Here are some of my tips on how to sport the trend:

1. Silk on Silk. If you’re wearing silk printed bottoms, there’s no better pair than a simple silk blouse. I’d go with white, ivory or black, depending on what colors are in your pants. I love loosely tucking in a blouse and belting it to break it up a little. Try to choose a blouse that’s obviously not a pajama top. Maybe opt for something with a collar like this one.  Just make sure you steam them out before you wear ‘em so you don’t walk out of your house looking a hot, wrinkly silk mess!
Equipment Mina Tie Hem Blouse
2. Heels. When in doubt, throw on a fabulous pair of heels.
Manolo Blahnik Brown and Turquoise pumps on SNOBSWAP
3. Top It Off. To balance out your flowy bottoms–or flowy look, if you’re going with the silk blouse/pant combo–top if off with a tailored jacket or blazer to give it a crisp finish.
Haute Hippie Gypsy Blouse, Embellished Tuxedo Trousers & Wide-Lapel Blazer
4. Accessorize. Accessories can always add that perfect finishing touch to any outfit and it’s no different with this trend. Whether it’s adding the perfect clutch or belt or necklace, try to pull the attention elsewhere as well to give your silky bottoms a break!

Ask a Stylist

We’ve teamed up with two amazing tastemakers and fashion bloggers, Elle from ellechoi.com and Wesley from screamingmouth.com, to answer your every day fashion questions!   Got a question, send us an email at: snobswap@snobswap.com or post the question on our Facebook wall.  This week’s edition is what trends men just don’t get.  Thanks for reading! xo
Q: What are some women trends lately that men just don’t get?
Wes:  I’m not sure I can speak to any specific trends, as in, articles of clothing, but one thing I don’t get is the trend of women being lazy when it comes to getting dressed.  Granted, this could arguably be considered as a venting session, but what’s up with women incessantly wearing workout clothes every single hour of the day?  You’re not that active, admit it.
I’m fairly certain a common uniform for a lot of women these days is: leggings/workout pants, nike running shoes with no-show socks, layered (sometimes fitted, others loose-fitting) tank tops, and sunglasses that are too big for their face.  I’m all for comfort, and trust me, as a straight man, there are some advantages to all of these women walking around in skin-tight pants, but seriously…as a man who also happens to work in fashion, I like to see women put in more effort by way of style, or at least originality.  When it comes to comfort, if the clothes fit the way they should, they should often feel like a second skin.  But this doesn’t necessarily mean those clothes need to involve lycra.  If you’re uncomfortable in “regular” clothes, then you’re either buying cheap fabrics, or they don’t fit.  So come on ladies, you can’t always be en route, or just departing the gym, be honest.  Keep in mind, it’s tough for us to be motivated to look our best when you don’t look yours.  :)
Q: What are your favorite three trends this summer?
Elle: Some of my favorite summer trends include floral print dresses, statement sunglasses and cut-out details!
Florals are so feminine, flirty and pretty! I’ve been obsessed with floral print pants but now it looks like I’ll be needing to stock up on floral dresses! (Here are some of my picks on the blog.) Floral print dresses are perfect for any occasion (parties, birthdays, brunch with your girlfriends, weddings, etc.) so make sure you get at least one staple floral dresses for this summer!
Statement sunnies have been all the rave, especially with music festivals going on and bloggers sporting some rare designs (the crazier, the better). Some of my favorite brands for statement sunglasses are Illesteva, Karen Walker and Thierry Lasry. Some of my favorite trends for statement sunnies are round frames (think back to “Gangnam Style”), mirrored shades, and tortoise shell frames!
Lastly, I’m loving the cut-out details in tops and dresses! It adds an element of edginess as well as geometrics! Not to mention the little slivers of revealed skin is quite sexy as well. Some of my favorite looks with cut-outs are also on the blog here!
What are some of your favorite trends this summer?
